Meta Hyperion

Meta's 5 GW AI campus on a former farm megasite in northeast Louisiana, with gas plants Entergy is building just for it

Under construction. Data halls rising since 2025 and Entergy broke ground on two dedicated gas plants in Dec. 2025. Nothing is energized yet.

The site

Nearly five miles of foundations, and no finished halls yet

The campus in the latest sharp satellite pictures: Nov. 17, 2025, and Oct. 15, 2025 for the north end. From the gas plant pad at the top to the hall fields at the bottom it is foundations, trenches, ponds and parking. No substation had been built, and no hall in the close-up views had a finished roof. Coarser satellite readings show roofed area roughly tripling between February and October 2026, but no sharp picture of that work exists yet.

Foundations for three halls where there was farmland in 2023

On Nov. 28, 2023 this was flat farmland. By Nov. 17, 2025 it was graded and trenched for three halls, with worker parking along the east road and two round tank pads, but no hall had a finished roof. The bright white block at the bottom edge sits just outside this view. Drag to compare.

In Nov. 2023 this was farmland at the edge of a woodlot. By Nov. 17, 2025 the ground east of a new pond was cleared and dug out for two halls, with stacks of material and rows of equipment staged around them. Neither hall had a roof.

Gas plant foundations, but no turbines yet

Entergy's gas plant site was a center-pivot field on Nov. 23, 2021. By Oct. 15, 2025 it was a graded, diamond-shaped pad with two grids of footing holes, a pond and a parking lot, but no turbines had arrived. Next door, the plant's east block had only poured slabs and a laydown yard. Drag to compare.

Farmland to about 26 large roofs in under two years

Ground first broke in Jan. 2025: the Jan. 2, 2025 frame shows field strips cleared and access grading around the halls site. By Oct. 6, 2026 about 26 large roofed structures stand across the build areas, and construction is still going on.

What the satellites see on the ground

From orbit, ground clearing shows from April 2025, and radar echoes from walls and steel start climbing in March 2025. About 115 acres read as roof by Oct. 2026, half of that by April 2026. That fits our stage: vertical construction.

Construction from orbit, as a share of the site: bare ground (left scale); roof and very bright radar echoes (right scale)

Roof: the highest 5-month median so far (roofs do not come down), dots are single months; bare ground: 3-month median; radar: 2-month median. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2023–2026.

How this works: Sentinel-2 photographs the ground every few days at 10 m. For each month we keep the cloud-free views over the campus outline (about 2,750 acres) and count the share that reads as bare ground and the share that reads as roof (very bright, not vegetated). Sentinel-1 radar sees through cloud every 6–12 days; walls and steel bounce the signal straight back, so the share of very bright radar echoes rises as buildings go up. Bright gravel pads and fresh concrete can read as roof, and wet or snowy months dip, so we read the trend, not single months. Black ticks mark our stage dates. Data: Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2, via the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem.
