Desert scrub in the only sharp picture, Sept. 2025
The campus on Sept. 21, 2025, the only sharp satellite picture of it, taken before any work: untouched desert scrub crossed by two-track trails. Grading began in the months after, so the whole build has been seen only by coarser satellites (below). By Oct. 2026 a large staging yard filled the southeast corner. The quarry at top left, the pond at left and the solar array near the bottom are not part of the campus.
- 1Data halls
west-center of the campus: one roofed, two rising - 2Power yard
east strip: a dark equipment field where the fuel-cell plant is planned - 3Laydown yard
southeast corner: rows of staged materials and equipment
One hall roofed and two more rising on 2025's desert
On Sept. 21, 2025, in the only sharp satellite picture of the campus, this was untouched desert scrub (see the site view above). By Oct. 11, 2026 a coarse satellite view shows one large hall with a finished bright roof and two more with partial roofs, one running off the bottom of the frame.
- 1 hall with a finished roof, about 290 by 110 meters
- 2 halls partly roofed (±1)
- 3 small white roofs are support buildings, not counted as halls
- Cranes, cooling units and vehicles: not visible at this resolution
A dark equipment field where the fuel-cell plant is planned
On Sept. 21, 2025 this strip on the east side of the campus was desert scrub (see the site view above). By Oct. 11, 2026 it was a dark, finely gridded field about 440 by 640 meters, with a bright equipment compound at its south end. At this coarse resolution the individual units cannot be made out, so the picture cannot show whether fuel cells are in place.
- 1 equipment field about 440 by 640 meters; its units are not visible at this resolution
- 1 bright compound at the south end, probably the electrical yard (±1)
- In Sept. 2025 (site view above): desert scrub and trails, nothing built
From desert scrub to three halls in a year
Grading began in late 2025, after the Oct. 6, 2025 frame and before a Nov. 3, 2025 capture. By Oct. 9, 2026 three hall roofs show, one bright and two dark, with fit-out continuing, and the microgrid field and the laydown yard are fully formed.

Evidence from space
NO2 over the site, net of the rural background, edged up from 14 to 18 µmol/m² between July–September 2025 and 2026, while the rural background stayed flat (about 20 both summers). The change is small next to normal swings, so it is not clear evidence of new combustion. Plant records also show no on-site power plant running yet. On record here: Bloom solid-oxide fuel cells (natural gas), 2,462 MW, proposed. No rise fits a plant that is not running yet, or runs little; it does not prove either.
What else could explain it
- Cities, highways, oil and gas fields and power plants in or near the box also emit NO2. Comparing the same months a year apart removes steady sources; a new source nearby would not cancel.
- Weather moves NO2 from day to day (wind, sunlight, cloud), and it builds up in winter. Subtracting the background box and comparing the same season a year apart removes most of that.
How this works: the Sentinel-5P satellite measures NO2 in the air over every point on Earth once a day, around 1:30 p.m. local time, in pixels about 5.5 by 3.5 km. NO2 comes from burning fuel (turbines, engines, traffic, power plants), so a rise over a site that open country does not share points to new combustion there. It shows combustion activity, not megawatts. The site box is about 15 km across; the background box is open country about 59 km away. We use only high-quality readings and drop days or weeks when cloud hides more than half of either box. Data: Copernicus Sentinel-5P (ESA), processed with the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem Sentinel Hub statistics service.
